WHY did this Crusade help Europe progress out of the Dark Ages?

Well, that would have been helpful to know. Technically, all of the crusades helped the entire world from being Muslim. Muslim armies defeated most of northern Africa, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, and Spain, which had been some of the most heavily Christian populated areas in the world. That's about all I know on the crusades, that and the fact that the Muslim armies had killed hundreds of thousands of Christians.
The First Crusade was launched in 1095 by Pope Urban II to check the advance of the Muslims and regain control of the city of Jerusalem and the Holy Land.
if that first crusade had not happened, we would all (most likely) be Muslim today :P
