So lets find the common denominator.
What does 4 and 2 both go evenly into ?
Answer is 4, so 4 is are common denominator.

3/4 = ?/4 (4 goes into 4 one time, and 1 x 3 = 3....so 3/4 = 3/4
1/2 = ?/4 (2 goes into 4 two times, and 2 x 1 = 2, so 1/2 = 2/4

now we have :
3/4 + 2/4 and we can add them now because they have a common denominator.
answer is 5/4 and if you need it in mixed number form, it is 1 1/4
