If the perimeter of a square is 48 miles, what is its area? 12 m2 144 m2 24 m2 576 m2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you just guessing Or not

OpenStudy (mathmale):

What does "perimeter" mean? If the length of one side of a square is x, what it the perimeter of that square? If the perimeter is 48, what is the length of one side of that square?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

What is the formula for the area of the square? What is the area?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@mathmale wait so does that mean is there is 4 sides in a square it is then 12x4=48

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Yes, or, stated a bit more accurately: If the perimeter is 48 inches, then each side has the length x = 48 inches / 4 = 12 inches. Nice work. Now that you have the length of one side, aaron, how do you find the area of this same square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A=BW

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'd prefer L*W, but go ahead with A=BW. If B=12 inches (from before), and W=12 inches, what is the area of your square, Aaron?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ok Well i can figure out the rest of it but thank you so much that really helped
