My proctor always finds a way to work this into our everyday lives. But, they're ridiculous scenarios.

The point of school, in my opinion, is not to teach you things you will need. It is to teach you how to learn. You could go throughout life only using the math you learned in elementary school; however, the knowledge you are provided with has an intent to give you a standard of intelligence and lifelong learning which are required for every job, even working at a fast food restaurant.
Also, learning math, though you might hate it, might, for whatever reason, make everything click. All of the sudden, you like math. It may never happen, but it can.

I disliked math few years ago. I wanted to study computer science, but I disliked the part of the math. The math made me doubtful about studying computer science. Two years ago, I had an excellent math teacher, and everything was like always. Last year, I had the worst math teacher you can imagine. Having him as a teacher made me realize what I actually feel about mathematics. In the last year, my math level improved by a lot, being in the top of my class. Now I enjoy math a lot. You never know what might happen :)
