What was the purpose of the Nuremberg Trials? (5 points) to force Nazi leaders to answer for war crimes to decide if Truman had committed a crime by dropping atomic bombs to force the Soviet Union to pay war reparations to determine if dividing Germany into zones of occupation violated international law
The Nuremberg Trials were definitely not to determine if Truman committed a crime with the atomic bomb drops (but many people would continue to debate that for years). It also wasn't to force the Soviets to pay war reparations (they were actually sitting on the bench as judges during the Trials and were the victims of aggression). It also wasn't to divide up Germany. The Trials, then, were focused on forcing Nazi leaders to answer for their war crimes and atrocities like the death camps. People wanted justice, answers, and some sense of closure after the horrors of WW2 in Europe.
Thank you so much!
