I was given a cumulative review as an assignment in preparation for the final exam, so I'm getting these things from the beginning of the semester I don't remember. Like this: I have to graph f. The function is f(x)=-2x^(2)-3

I would start by finding the vertex. I forgot how to do that though. I'm not sure if it's just the y-intercept (0,-3)?

Yes very good! Since we don't have an x term ( x to the first power ), we don't have a horizontal shift.

To finish graphing it do I just pick points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like an x?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

It's x squared, so it's a parabola, yes? So it's just a bowl shape. Since the x squared term is negative, the bowl opens downward, so it's more like a hat I guess. And the 2 makes it grow faster, so it will be narrower. If you want to pick some points though, that's a fine idea as well.|dw:1398211853141:dw|
