The pitch, I guess. Also, the flute has an open-holed version, so the keys would be another one.

The way they are played; the recorder is played horizontally whereas the flute is played sort of vertically The flute has a lip plate whereas the recorder does not Material; the flute is made of metal and the recorder is usually made of plastic or wood Flute is one size (although alto, tenor and bass flutes do exist) where as there are 5 recorder sizes (sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor and bass). So the pitch is different Hope this helps :)
