Please help me out! :) What's the technique in getting this thing.. Find the domain and range of 3x - 2y = 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x and y belongs to real numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you say so? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no iam aksing is there any condition given on x and y?

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

its a linear eq so domain=all real x, range=all real y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if they are real numbers then u get infinite number of pairs as solutions that is domain belongs to real numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sidsiddhartha what if question would have x and y belonging to integers then our domain would have been restriced

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry. :( i don't understand.

OpenStudy (sidsiddhartha):

yeah @cody_123

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@itsmeeQUENNIE in short domain are all the values that x can take so that y is real

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you i\[x=\frac{ 2y+6 }{ 3 }\]solate x like

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i did a mistake its the other way round u have to isolate y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y=\frac{ 3x-6 }{2 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u can easily see that for every real value of x y is defined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and hence domain belongs to all real numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for range its the other way round like u have to check for what values of y x is defined which comes out to be real numbers in this question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhh.. if you're going to solve that kind of question, how you will solve that? is there any formulas or techniques you can share with me? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is only 1 approach for this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is if u want to find out domain check out the values of x for which y is defined and for range check out the values of y for which x is defined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhh. in that question only?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh. eh, how about others?
