how do I solve 5/8+1/2=y/24 I will show you what I did so far

so I first found what was the greatest common factor between ⅝ and ½ … which is 8. so I converted ½ into 4/8 by multiplying 2 x 4 and 1 x 4. (I did this so I could add the factions… this way they have a common denominator and I can add them.) with me so far?
