how do you solve sin^2x+2cosx=2?

OpenStudy (accessdenied):

If we changed sin² x into terms of cosine, we could make a substitution that u = cos x. Then solve the resulting quadratic equation for u, and then solve for x working backwards: cos x = u

OpenStudy (accessdenied):

The solutions of the quadratic in u are the values that we set cos x equal to.
