my essay: “Drunk Irish”, “German Nazi”, “Dumb Blond”, “Smart Asian”, or even “privileged white guy/girl” are some common Assumptions and/or Stereotypes. Most people use them in everyday situations without even realizing it. I am hear thou to go against my stereotype and say “Just because I’m Muslim doesn’t mean I’m a Terrorist.” I have been picked on for as long as I remember for being a “terrorist”, I’ll walk down the hallway and a random person will walk up to me and say something like “hey terrorist, where is the bomb today?” or “how long till your next attack, terrorist?” but I am here to say I’m not a terrorist.
Muslim and terrorist are used together so often that it’s not even funny anymore and I blame the media, go look at media, if there is a killing by a Muslim its considered a act of terrorism, but if let’s say a “white” guy did twice what the Muslim did then they will find an excuse not to call it terrorism. A good example is the fort hood shooting, the man who went and shot the people was Muslim, he killed 13 people and it is considered a “act of terrorism” yet go look at the sandy hook shooting, 26 people killed (not including the perpetrator) yet all they considered him was “mentally unstable”. Go look at any religion, there probably has been at least one person who follows that religion who killed someone because of their belief, so just because a few Muslim went and killed people off of a extremist point of view doesn’t make all Muslims “terrorists”.
