The local skating rink pays Mary a fixed rate per pupil plus a base amount to work as a skating instructor. She earns $90 for instructing 15 students on Monday afternoon. Last Friday, she earned $62 for working with 8 students. Lisa is also a skating instructor. She receives half the base amount that Mary does, but she is paid twice as much per student. Who would earn more money instructing a class of 20 students?i
can lisa earn more than mary
or 120 more or 65 more?
Does the question happen to tell you what the base amount is?
no
im trying to use slope eqution but I got 2 answers
Ok. So just by guessing and checking, I found that the base amount appears to be 30. Then, Mary gets 4 dollars a student. So this means at 20 students, Mary receives 30 + 4 times the number of students. This shows Mary getting a total of 110. Now, If Lisa gets double the amount per student but half of the base amount, you can add 15 + 8 times the number of students (20). This comes out to 175. This shows that Lisa gets 65 dollars more than Mary does.
awesome that's what I got the 1st time but just wasn't sure
