1. Think about the important concepts in the Declaration of Independence and in Thomas Paine’s pamphlet, Common Sense.
@beccaboo333
the Dec of Independence was to literally state that the colonies were independent of British rule, while the influential Common Sense pamphlet stated reasons why the colonies should break up in the first place, and was very effective in persuading the people.
2. Review information about John Locke and other thinkers who influenced the Founders. I am not sure could anyone help?
@hlee0919
John Locke influenced Thomas Jefferson's ideals behind the Dec of I, and other Enlightenment thinkers such as Hobbes, Montesquieu were influential at that time.
Can you @hlee0919 help me with one more? 3. Use this information to write one to two paragraphs carefully answering the questions below: What justifications did American revolutionaries have for declaring independence from Great Britain? How did John Locke’s concept of a social contract play a role in the fight for independence?
The main point was that American rebels had no say in the British Parliament, even though they considered themselves loyal English subject. John Locke's social contract stated that the people could overthrow if the gov. failed to provide and protect the rights of the citizens.
