you need to get the area of both squares, with the pythagorean theorem. The first one is a=4 b=4 c=sqrt(16+16) and you know that the area of the square is side*2, then it is 32 for the small one, for the big one you have a=9 b=9 c=sqrt(81+81) and then using the formula for the area you get the big one which is 162, you substract the small one and you get the shaded area which should be 130
