Please can someone explain to me how to answer this question? A large ion of mass 5.8*10^9 u and charge +18e is accelerated constantly towards a detector by a potential difference of 870V. Assuming the ion starts from rest, calculate the time taken for the ion to travel 47cm to the detector.

OpenStudy (gebooors):

You can calculate acceleration of the ion F= ma = qE. Then, starting from rest, s = 0,5at^2 1 u = 1.66* 10-27 kg

OpenStudy (roberts.spurs19):

Thank you so much! I understand that now!
