OpenStudy (mazehaq):

I have two questions about counting and permutations, please see attached pics! (#'s 51 & 54)

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

Thanks!

OpenStudy (valpey):

Order matters so there are 4 missions he can do first times 3 missions he can do second etc.

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

How would I write that out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My guess is you can just treat each person/object as 1 thing.. lois 1 is, schoolbus is 1, jimmy is 1, and the other one is 1... so you have four things and you want to know how many ways you can order these four things this is 4!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not shouting 4, but, 4-factorial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4*3*2*1 ways to order four objects

OpenStudy (anonymous):

imagine if each of those things superman has to do is just stanging in a line. 4! would be the number of ways he could arrange those things in a single queue

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

I assumed this to be a "fundamental counting principle" problem. I would have never guessed it to be a permutation.

OpenStudy (mazehaq):

How did you know it would be a permutation? I know the two concepts are very different.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

imagine if you have three objects|dw:1398323092122:dw|
