Set up the conversion so the desired unit will be cancelled out. In this case, we want g to be the remaining unit.

mass in g = (mass in kg ) x (1000 g/1 kg)

Note how the kilograms unit will be cancelled out in this equation.

mass in g = (1/8 kg) x 1000 g/kg
mass in g = (0.125 kg) x 1000 g/kg
mass in g = 125 g
