PLEASE HELP! Find the sum and express it in simplest form. (-b-5x-3)+(2b-4x+7)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 is the answer i think id really know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its wrong thanks for trying though.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am only 10 u know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so you have to collect like terms, do you know what like terms are?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like -b and 2b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

essentially the same pronumerals regardless of their coefficient can be added together and constants can add/subtract together. yes exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

e.g. 2b - b = b technically there is meant to be a 1 in front of the b but we don't write it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and for constants e.g. 3 + 5 = 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so do I just add all the like terms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and that's my answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep, you add the b's together, the x's together and the constant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so your final answer should include b, x and a constant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got b-9x+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep that should be the correct answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks!!@JayDS
