describe what it means for a number to be a solution to an equation. How do you check to see if a number is a solution to an equation?
a solution is any value that make an equation true...
5x = 15 x = 3 3 is the solution to this equation.

You can check to see if a number is a solution by plugging it into the equation and seeing if it is true.
5(x) = 15 plug in 4 \[20 \ne 15\]
