Stacy and Travis are rock climbing. Stacy's rope is 4 feet shorter than 3 times the length of Travis' rope. Stacy's rope is 23 feet long. Write and solve an equation to find the length t of Travis' rope.

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Travis rope = T Stacy rope = S Stacys rope is 4 feet shorter than 3 times the length of T so "3 times the length of T means 3T and now 4 feet shorter than that...would be 3T - 4 right? And we ALSO know that will = 23 ...so 3T - 4 = 23
