Circle P has a radius of 7 and Circle R has a diameter of 8. The circumference of Circle P is how much greater than the circumference of Circle R?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well let's find the circumferences! C = 2pi*r. C_p = 2pi*7 = 14pi. C_r = 2pi*(8/2) = 8pi. Notice how for C_r I divided 8/2 because we were given that the diameter is 8. The circumference formula, however, uses the radius. So, C_p - C_r = 14pi - 8pi = 6pi. Circle P's circumference is 6pi units greater than the circumference of Circle R.
