Joey throws a ball in the air. The graph shows the height of the ball on the y-axis and the time that the ball is in the air on the x-axis. The top of the graph is missing. After how many seconds does the ball reach the highest point? A) 2 seconds B) 4.25 seconds C) 5 seconds D) 28 seconds

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

what do u think

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

remember x-axis is time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont know thats why i'm asking and i understand that but what am i suppose to solve an equation for the parabola?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

its much simpler than that

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

just look at the x-axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok . . .

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

the blue curve is cutting the x-axis at somewhere around 0 and 4, right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right. . .

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Starting from 0, notice that the blue curve is shooting UP... and after 2, the curve seems to fall down... and cut the x-axis again at t=4 right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so at what time the curve reaches its highest value ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

at t = 2, it has to reach its highest value...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thats where the graph is at its highest but cant see it.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good, u have answered ur own question :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OOOHHHH! so its A.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yep !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright i understand thanks! :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np.. u wlc :)
