The profit (P), in dollars, for a company is modeled by the function P(x)=-750x^2 +15,000x, where x is the number of items produced. For which values of x will the company lose money?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

have you covered parabolas yet?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so notice you have a parabola the leading term's coefficient is negative, meaning is going downwards so at some point the graph will touch the x-axis, at that point, (P)rofit will be 0 once you go below that, and thus "x" moving further, then you'd end up with a negative "y value" and thus losing (P)rofit

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

keep in mind that (P)rofit will be 0, when y = 0 so set y = 0, or the equation to \(\bf 0=-750x^2 +15,000x\) and solving for "x" will give at what point it'll be at 0, further "x" values will give a negative "y" or (P)rofit loss
