What is the total cost of a pair of jeans that are priced $50.00 if there is 7.5% sales tax? I know the answer is $53.75 but I really need someone to explain it to me.

7.5% of 50.00 means 50 * 7.5 /100 = 3.75 . this amount of money is the tax you have to pay the original price of the jeans, which is 50 , so that the total is 3.75+ 60 = 53.75
