make sure that you have a common denominator (preferably the LCD - least common denominator). i think u know tat 6 is a multiple of 3 so six can be the LCD. the first fraction is all right . change 1/3 to a fraction with a denominator wit 6. to do so we know tat 3*2=6 so watever we do to the bottom, we do it to te top. (numerator). 1*2=3 and 3*2=6 we know have: \[3\frac{ 5 }{ 6 } - \frac{ 2 }{ 6 }\] subtract as usual. 5-2=x and 3 is 3.
