A psychologist believes that there is a relationship between gender and depression. He takes a random sample of 55 men and 111 women to test this idea. For each sample, he measures their depression on a scale of 1 to 20 with higher scores indicating greater depression. The mean score for men was 3.2 with a standard deviation of 2.1. The mean score for women was 5.1 with a standard deviation of 3.2. Is there a significant difference between groups? Be sure to state H0, state H1, calculate and state the test statistic, and provide the decision/conclusion statement. Is this a Z test?
Or would this be independent sample t
I think it's the independent
I did iindependent and got this as my answer.. can you verify my numbers are right? H1: The average score for depression in men is significantly higher than woman. H0: There is no difference in the means. Reject H0: There is a significant difference between the means (t= -4.58, df=164, p<.05)
Sorry, I have to log out now and don't have time to help with this. Hopefully someone with more expertise can help.
