help please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using the equation: 7x – 3 = 2x + 12, check at least three different values for x, showing all work. Tell whether each value you chose is a solution.

OpenStudy (bibby):

Start by getting the x's on one side of the equation to find the actual solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so...18x?

OpenStudy (bibby):

Go step by step. First add 3 to both sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so 7 and 17.

OpenStudy (bibby):

7x – 3 = 2x + 12 + 3 + 3 ---------------- 7x = 2x +15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I knew that:/

OpenStudy (bibby):

then why'd you get the math wrong ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bibby, just cause alright!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=.=

OpenStudy (bibby):

~_~

OpenStudy (bibby):

solve for x 7x = 2x +15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24??=.=

OpenStudy (bibby):

Are you just guessing random numbers? How'd you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2+15+7:/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no? not right?

OpenStudy (bibby):

Not right. You can't just add 2x and 15. Think of them as shapes. x's are squares and numbers are triangles You can only add?/subtract the same shape

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im lost=.= I don't know how to do this:/

OpenStudy (bibby):

|dw:1398542720885:dw| You can only add and subtract squares

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, I knew that:/

OpenStudy (bibby):

So get the x's onto one side and solve for x. What is the first step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ugh:( bibby thanx but I give up. ill guess:/

OpenStudy (bibby):

That's dumb, I'm here and helping you. Don't just give up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bibby its hard!!

OpenStudy (bibby):

I know! That's why I'm here!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:( ok.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanx bibbs:)

OpenStudy (bibby):

Do you know what to do if I give you this much? 7x = 2x + 15

OpenStudy (bibby):

7x = 2x + 15 -2x -2x -------- 5x = 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well there squares right? so... no=.=

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im completely lost here.

OpenStudy (bibby):

x = 3. I'm bad at tutoring but you're a terrible student :'(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

aqreed:(

OpenStudy (bibby):

now pick 2 other numbers and plug them into the original equation and check it out to see if they work 7x – 3 = 2x + 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 and 4. what does plug them in mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bibby im confused!:(

OpenStudy (bibby):

god someone pls help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please help me:( im dumb:(
