Why use the words extensive and intensive for properties instead of dependent and independent? Why use words that have different meanings outside of chemistry? Wouldn't dependent and indepent make more sense since it's specifically about the properties dependence on mass?

Ah, I understand. Extensive means that it's dependent on the "extent" of the system. Still why combine two words instead of just using the word dependent?
