Read this excerpt from "The Diamond Necklace": "The girl was one of those pretty and charming young creatures who sometimes are born, as if by a slip of fate, into a family of clerks. She had no dowry, no expectations, no way of being known, understood, loved, married by any rich and distinguished man; so she let herself be married to a little clerk of the Ministry of Public Instruction." Based on this excerpt, what conflict do you expect the narrator to focus on? The difference between the job the husband has and the job she wants him to have. The difference between the kind of lifestyle the girl was accustomed to and the one she has now. The difference between what the girl wants to have and what the clerk can provide. The difference between the backgrounds and upbringing of the girl and the clerk.
I know its NOT A or B...... Im thinkng between c or d but i mainly go for D
@alex-linne
I'm pretty sure it would be D. Okay, so the excerpt is basically saying that the woman is NOT meant to be associated with the lower class of clerks. She is pretty, charming, and pretty much too good for the life that she was born into. She had no high expectations for anything, including the man she was to be married to. She deserved a rich husband, but let herself wed a clerk. A and B is ruled out,so you would be correct.So, the answer is either C or D. It never said that the girl ever wanted anything,so it cannot be C.
yaaay thank you ! btw ur gorgeous :)
Thanks! You too!
I lied,after looking at it again, it must be C. Both the girl and the clerk had similar backgrounds
I'm now confident that C is the answer. Sorry Gabby.
its ok ! wait but what do u mean about the backgrounds ? what background did the clerk have ?
I just see that as irrelevant to the info given in the excerpt. The girl was brought up by clerks and there is no info to indicate the clerk's background or upbringing. If you find that your reasons for choosing D outnumber my reasons for choosing C, please, by all means, choose D! x)
Oooh, I read this last year. I'd say the answer is C. Basically, this woman was pretty and all, but unfortunately, she was born into a middle class family. She wanted more, in terms of wealth. But fate had its way, so she had no other option but to marry a clerk.
c it is .. thanks !
