How did the cold war emerge?

OpenStudy (jlg030597):

the cold war emerged from a large debate between the US and SU leaders that lead to a cold war. Now there is a difference a Cold war is a war where no fighting is done a Hot war is a war where there is guns and death alot more than a cold war. Cold wars were a lot safer than hot wars.

After the second world war America and Russia (then USSR) disagreed on how to deal with the defeated Germany. When America and Britain joined their parts of Germany Russia very quickly saw this as a threat and so Germany became East Germany and West Germany. The eastern side was influenced by Russia and communism whereas the western side was influenced by democracy. Basically after that there was mistrust between the 'sides' which created a great deal of problems that led to 'the race to space' the 'nuclear race' and more! Britain and America basically only became allies with Russia because they shared a common enemy-Germany, so the Cold War was inevitable, even Hitler himself foresaw it before he took his own life.

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

The Cold War started when Soviet tanks rolled in to Berlin at the end of WWII. The Soviets had no intention of giving up the half of Germany they had taken to become a free and independent state. The USSR helped defeat the Nazi's by attacking from the east while the Allies came from the south and west.. The Allies worked out terms for each country, including Germany, to eventually return to self rule. The Soviets didn't give up control. Countries like East Germany, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Bulgaria all became client states of the USSR and had Communist governments that were approved by Moscow.
