The Seven Years War was one of many between France and England over a couple centuries. This one involved North America because both France and England had claims on the continent. The North American theater of the Seven Years war, which became known as the French and Indian War in the US, started in 1754. A group of Virginia militia was sent to check out what the French wear doing at Fort Duquesne, where Pittsburgh is now. The militia was led by a 22 year old named George Washington. He went a little further and ambushed a French patrol. Eventually, the militia made it back to Virginia but the whole Seven years war had a new place to fight. So the English Army beat the French and their Indian allies out and claimed all the land that used to be French for Britain. War is expensive. So Britain figured the colonist should help pay for at least part of the war. The colonist thought differently. So parliament start passing taxes that applied just to the American colonies. They just wanted to get paid. The Americans cried foul. They didn't get a say in any of the laws parliament passed about them. All Englishmen had rights under the English Bill of Rights. They were English and were being treated differently. Englishmen in England got to vote for Representatives to Parliament and had a voice in government. American Englishmen reasoned that that didn't have to pay any tax that had not been voted on by their representatives. They were merely asserting their rights as Englishmen. It all went south for England. They tried to force compliance by sending troops and one thing lead to another. Then, wel you know...
