Simplify x+5/x^2+6x+5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a question from a test but I need help asap

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the dash mark supposed to mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Divided

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@gograciego23 could u help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its x+5 all divided by x^2+6x+5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because you can go ahead and cancle out the 5s

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then you will be left with the Xs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay... So what would of be? X/+6x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

factoring the denominator you get (x+5)/(x+1)*(x+5) simplifying gets you 1/(x+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oooo okay thanks. Can u help me with another one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jN7 ...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

go ahead, and i'll see if i can help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simplify x^2-3x-10/ x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the numerator x^2-3x-10 factors to (x-5)*(x+2) therefore (x-5)*(x+2)/(x+2) simplifies to ....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wouldn't it simplify to x-5¿

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Was it so would x=/ 5 or x=/ 2
