i didnt study this but i just read a litlle and (is black elk a native american tribe?) if so it probably caused a negative effect on his people if the discovery of gold was on there land because then many travelers and miners would probably by getting in the way and taking over the land.

Black elk was a person, but yes he is in a native american tribe.
