Ok. I will explain in an even better way. take four seats where you and your friends can sit.

The first seat can be occupied in 4 ways. That means any of you can sit over there.

The second seat can be filled in three ways as one of you have already occupied the first one

The third seat can be occupied in only two ways as two of you are already seated.

The fourth seat can be occupied in only one way.

So the answer would be 4*3*2*1 = 24
