Although an interstate dispute over Kashmir has existed between India and Pakistan since the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947[2] an internal conflict between Kashmiri insurgents (some favouring Kashmiri accession to Pakistan, and some favouring Kashmir's complete independence.[3]) and the Government of India has constituted the main conflict and source of violence in the region since 2002.
