advantages of analysing dna to solve crimes

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

WELCOME TO OPEN STUDY !! @gloria.achirem !! Its basically about DNA Fingerprinting..The DNA fingerprinting technology has provided us with a high degree of accuracy in finding the culprit. So how do they do this?? First of all in cases where a suspect is identified, a sample of that person’s DNA can be compared to evidence from the crime scene. This result will help to find out whether the suspect committed the crime. or not. There is also another way in which the suspect may have not been identified. In such cases biological evidence from the crime scene can be analyzed and compared to offender profiles in DNA databases to help identify the perpetrator. This crime scene evidence can also be linked to other crime scenes through the use of DNA databases. :)

what are the disadvantages of analysig dna to solve crimes

OpenStudy (shreehari499):

Hi again..!! Indeed advantages are more than the disadvantages but to name some of them : One of the main disadvantage is that the DNA fingerprintng is very sensitive i.e it can be easily contaminated. Even a small contamination can destroy all the process... :) We can also say that if different people do the same method at different places, there can be variations and cause a lot of problems... :)
