What is another program that you can buy that like Auto CAD?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can use freecad, sketchup or draftsight but, i suggest you to use auto cad as it is the most standardized software as far as 2-d drafting is concerned

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solidworks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think you can also use ArcGIS.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you can also use ArchiCAD

SolidThinking offers a free student version. Geomatic is the new name for Alibre. TinkerCad is online. 123D by Autodesk ( maker of AutoCAD. )

If you're looking for an alternative to AutoCAD specifically, then Inventor is a good alternative. Autodesk offers a ton of its software free to students. If you don't want to use anything by Autodesk, Solidworks is definitely worth looking into.

If you are an architect, then AutoCAD is best. If you are mechanical engineer, CATIA, PRO-E, SOLIDWORKS, is best. But AutoCAD does well for most of the machine designs. The design you drafted in AutoCAD can be exported to other softwares to realize further applications. For example you can design a cantilever beam, or trusses on AutoCAD and then import those drawings from ANSYS (which is an analysis software) to work upon the application of load and see animations on thermal stresses and shear & bending diagrams.
