What led to the economic depression of 1873 in Britain?
Welcome to Openstudy for one!
In the Civil War, which hadn't ended too long before, hundreds of millions of greenbacks, or paper money, was issued to the country. With millions upon millions of greenbacks in circulation, inflation rates went through the roof. Railroad tracks were being laid too quickly and over speculated, too many grain fields and factories were being formed, and high debts of the majority of Americans all were contributors to the economic depression of 1873. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080424203633AA3vJjo
I would say it was because of poor economy and leadership, heres more info on the subject http://www.personal.psu.edu/dbh5017/art002/a7/
