If p(x)=(x+2)(x+k) and if the remainder is 12 when p(x) is divided by x-1 then k=? as far as i know you are supposed to take the derivative of p(x), then divide the derivative by x-1 and set that all equal to 12 and then solve for k but I'm not sure.

Derivative? Not sure how that would come into play here. Instead, I'd try long division.
