Jay paid $126 to rent a car for 4 days. Stephanie paid $184.50 to rent a car for 6 days. Who paid the lower daily rate and what was this rate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Stephanie paid the lower daily rate of $30.75. Jay: 126 x 6 = 756 756/24 = 31.50 Stephanie: 184.50 x 4 = 738 738/24 = 30.75 Since you need to find the daily rate and they give you the 6 and 4 day rate you narrow it down. What is the least common denominator? We don't know yet! What is the smallest number 6 and 4 fit into? 24! So now you need to find how much it costs for them to rent a car for 24 days. Jay's cost for the car is $126.00 in 4 days. How are we going to get it to 24, you ask? It may seem hard but it's very easy. All you do is multiply the cost by 6 since they already listed 4 days. So 6 multiplied by 126 is 756. Here is the average for 24 days, but we need to find the average for one day. So all we do is divide $756.00 by 24 days and we get an answer of $31.50 per day. Trust me, easier done than said! Now you do the same with Stephanie. $184.50 multiplied by 4 (4 because they already listed 6 days with Stephanie) and the answer would be $738.00. $738.00 divided by 24 equals $30.75. Now for the last step and easiest part of the problem. Take the amounts, Jay $31.50 per day and Stephanie $30.75 per day. Who paid the lower daily rate and what was it? Stephanie paid the lower daily rate with $30. 75. So the correct answer would be C. Hope that I helped!!!
