What role did nationalism and alliance systems play in the out break of first ww1? In the alliance system there became a lot of tension between the countries especially with the french and Russians. The nationalism that spread across Europe in the second half of the 19th century took two different, though related, forms. Many of the peoples of Central Europe belong to an ethnic group called Slavs, including Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Belarusians, Russians, Ukrainians, Bosnians, Serbs, Montenegrins, Bulgars, Croats, Macedonians, and Slovenes. Several slavic groups had been under the control of the ottoman empire but the empire had been declining for years . By 1912, the Ottomans had been driven almost completely out of Europe. Now many of these independent Slavs wanted to liberate Slavs under Austro-Hungarian rule. Therefor the alliance system caused great tension between the countries especially with the french and Russians starting the ww1 and nationalism destroyed the ottoman empire witch was the most powerful nation on earth.
