Geometry 22 Online

I have never asked a question on this site, but I am stuck on a question in geometry and could use an explanation. I will post the question whenever someone replies.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

tis easier if you posts something specific, if someone knows, they'd help when available

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like ask the question now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jdoe0001

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here is the problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jdoe0001 I posted the pic of the problem. take a look?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I also have one more question after this.

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, looking at it

OpenStudy (phi):

what is the length of AO ?

OpenStudy (phi):

and what is the len of AB? (they tell you)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4000 cus it's the radius

OpenStudy (phi):

You have a right triangle (tangent to a radius forms a right angle) Find OB

OpenStudy (phi):

then subtract off the radius

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not completely helpless in math I just don't know of AB is 17000 or BO is

OpenStudy (phi):

AB is 17000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have an A in geometry, i just need an explanation step by step to explain how to solve this. It is a confusingly worded question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am solving for BC correct?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

|dw:1398980859307:dw| notice that AO and CO are both radius to the circle also notice that the point of tangency, that is the point where AO meets with AB is a right angle, so yo can use pythagorean theorem to find BO once you find BO, subtract CO from it to get BC which is what you're being asked for

OpenStudy (phi):

If you were at A, the satellite would be on the horizon

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok got it solving for BC thanks, can I ask another question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Last one

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

easier if you post anew, more exposure, so if we dunno, someone else may and we also revises each other :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know how to do that?

OpenStudy (phi):

close this post ask a new question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok can I tag you guys or will you see it? cus I need to get this done
