What are some of the cities where jazz developed? Why do you think these particular cities became important sites for jazz?
New Orelans, Kansas City, New York. These cities soon became the center of many jazz movements; New Orleans became the center of the Dixieland style of Jazz, more trad. jazz based on the concept of "play with the feel" Kansas City became the center of the "Big Band" and "Swing" jazz styles, and home to several jazz greats like Lester Young and Count Basie. New York was the center of Big Band and Swing styles too, but it's clubs were mostly known for the development of Bebop, after Charlie Parker and Miles Davis. These cities became important sites for jazz because many jazz musicians would come from these cities, or live in them, and make a living in them, making it their center.
