The only section of the country to allow slavery was the South. true or false.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a mistake to believe that only the south held slaves, slaves were a part of the united states, from it's inception as a British colony and was practised for over a century nationwide. the south just wanted to keep it around longer is all, despite what you may have been taught the civil war was not fought over slavery but began as a protest against tariffs by the north on agricultural goods, and snowballed into a war about secession. Abraham Lincoln said" if I could preserve the union by getting rid of slavery, I would do it, If I could preserve the union by keeping slavery I would do that too." The south just tried to hold on to the old ways longer and that was its mistake.

OpenStudy (lulubj):

No, but that's where most of the agriculture was so that's where they were needed.
