What is your guess? I have only a guess, as well.

OpenStudy (theeric):

What kind of shape is the wire in?

OpenStudy (theeric):

Specifically, it's a solenoid! So, the magnetic field from a solenoid is directed how?

OpenStudy (theeric):

Look up images for solenoid magnetic field. OR, do you know what the magnetic field from a current carrying loop, is?

OpenStudy (theeric):

Do an image search! Or you can point your right thumb in the direction of the current and curl you fingers to show the magnetic field direction. So the magnetic field is in concentric circles, so the direction is clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on how you look at it. Look up pictures for a solenoid! The iron bar just amplifies the solenoids magnetic field.

OpenStudy (theeric):

I have to go! Good luck! The research should not be too difficult. Note that you are just changing the current on and off, not changing its direction. Take care!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The field in the solenoid will be along its axis. It will be created and destroyed by closing and openng the switch.
