What type of democracy governs the United States?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would say a two party liberal representative democracy.

OpenStudy (nurali):

A representative democracy is what is governing in the United States. We, the people, choose from among us the leaders we want to represent our needs and interests at local, state, and federal levels (or even on the job if we form a union, as is our Constitutional right). These representatives then go to wherever they hold office thanks to our votes and take care of business as this business relates to our needs and interests or to the security of the nation. If they FAIL to represent the people who choose them as representatives, they are then VOTED OUT and new representatives are chosen. The United States is a representative democratic republic.
