Solve the following proportion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ x }{ 2 }=\frac{ 8 }{ x }\] @hero, do I cross multiply on this one?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

multiply both sides by 2x and what do you have? \(2x\frac{x}{2}=2x\frac{8}{x}\implies\cancel{2}x\frac{x}{\cancel{2}}=2\cancel{x}\frac{8}{\cancel{x}}\implies x^2=16\implies x= \ ?\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got x^2 =16, by just cross multiplying. I have no idea how to solve that. Uhhh, 4?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

\(x^2=16\implies x=\pm\sqrt{16}=\pm4\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yaaaaaay! lol Thank you!

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

note another way to think about these, and this is how I do, is move the x to the top on the other side, move the 2 to the top on the other side we get x^2=16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's cross multiply, right?
