If you are reading a story and you realize you are getting the details of the plot confused with another story you have read before, which strategy would be a good to use to clear up the confusion?

is this something you are dealing with currently or something for an assignment? If you are having this problem, what's best is to close the book you're reading, pull out a piece of paper, and write down the plot you are confusing down to get it out of your head, then you can go back to reading the other book once your mind is clear. At least, that's what I do...
