I actually don't know what are you asking about the fourier series but i think you want to know, what is it? It deals with the functions which are periodic and transform them into the functions Sine and Cosine. For Example the A.C signals. A perfect algorithm for observing the repetition and magnitude etc of a function. \[ \begin{align} s_N(x) &= \frac{a_0}{2} + \sum_{n=1}^N \left(\overbrace{a_n}^{A_n \sin(\phi_n)} \cos(\tfrac{2\pi nx}{P}) + \overbrace{b_n}^{A_n \cos(\phi_n)} \sin(\tfrac{2\pi nx}{P})\right)\\ &= \sum_{n=-N}^N c_n\cdot e^{i \tfrac{2\pi nx}{P}}, \end{align}\]
