Mia is three years older than twice her sister Brooke’s age. The sum of their ages is less than 30. What is the greatest age Brooke could be? A. 7 B. 8 C. 10 D. 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mia = 3 + 2B Brooke = B

So, 3+3B can't be greater than 30

So, the answer would be D

I think the answer will be B. 8 because the equation will look like this, say M=Mia's age and x = Brook's age M + x < 30 (3+2x) + x < 30 3 + 3x < 30 3(1+x) < 30 1+x < 10 x<9 so that will be 8, x cannot equal 9 but has to be less than 9
